Upcycling movement extends current production model

More and more people see the value of sustainability and circular thinking. Companies play a big role in achieving goals like reducing waste and the level of carbon emission. Companies specialised in upcycling enter the market or create special product lines dedicated to upcycling materials.

End of life

End of life is not included in the linear production model. This means that raw materials are used to manufacture new products, which will ultimately be used and thrown away. But what happens with the products after consumers are finished with them? In this context ‘upcycling’ comes in. In this sustainable approach, the environmental impact is reduced through reducing waste and therefore the demand on raw materials, extending the lifecycle of materials.

Upcycling versus recycling

Whereas recycling is just the reuse of materials, upcycling goes beyond! Old materials are transformed and upgraded to new and higher value products. Simply said; upcycling is reusing product creatively.

The Revolve™ line of sustainable cleanroom products by Texwipe®

We are proud to contribute to the upcycling movement with our sustainable product line. The Revolve™ line of cleanroom consumable products are made from 100% post-consumer (rPET) yarn made by upcycling plastic bottle waste. The bottles are collected and sent to the recycling center where they are sorted, cleaned, ground and upcycled ready to make the REPREVE yarn. In this way we reduce the amount of waste going into landfills and we reduce the level of carbon emission. In this video we show the production process even more.

rPET materials are equivalent to virgin material

Texwipe® carried out extensive research on the performance characteristics of rPET-made polyester compared to virgin polyester material.  The rPET materials were processed through Texwipe’s manufacturing lines and demonstrated comparable properties as virgin material.
